Privacy notice

We turn documents issued by your child’s school into a list of what you and your child must do. Your child’s education records are sensitive personal information under the Data Privacy Act, so we ask your permission for each purpose separately, before any processing begins.

Reading school documents to find what must be done

Required - the service cannot work without it.

The document you upload is transmitted to an automated language model operated by Google LLC (and, only during an outage of that service, Anthropic PBC), both in the United States, in order to identify deadlines, requirements and instructions. These are presented to you as actions for you and your child. The original document is retained so that every item remains traceable to the sentence it was taken from. We keep this while your subscription is active, and for six months after it ends. If you only used the free trial and never subscribed, we keep it for 30 days after the trial ends. Then it is deleted. We remain responsible for personal data processed on our behalf by these processors. On every request we require, by configuration, that it is handled without collection of user data and without retention. We do not undertake that a processor will act otherwise than in accordance with its published terms; we undertake that we will configure, monitor and where necessary replace processors so that the requirements of this notice are met. Without this permission there is nothing the service can do for you.

Storing lesson notes for later use

Optional - refusing changes nothing else about the service.

Photographs of lesson notes and study material are transmitted once to an automated language model operated by Google LLC in the United States, in order to record the text printed on the page and the position of any diagram on it. That text, and any diagram cut from the page, are stored, as is the original photograph. We keep this while your subscription is active, and for six months after it ends. If you only used the free trial and never subscribed, we keep it for 30 days after the trial ends. Then it is deleted. The photograph is not transmitted again. When you ask for practice or a reviewer, the stored text is sent to the same service to build it, and the material itself stays where it is. No deadline, task or requirement is extracted from this material, and no assessment, score, ranking or prediction about your child is produced from it. We remain responsible for personal data processed on our behalf by these processors. On every request we require, by configuration, that it is handled without collection of user data and without retention. We do not undertake that a processor will act otherwise than in accordance with its published terms; we undertake that we will configure, monitor and where necessary replace processors so that the requirements of this notice are met. Your permission is sought now because material issued this term cannot be obtained afterwards, and because we intend to use it to generate practice questions drawn from your child’s own lessons. Storing graded schoolwork for later practice

Optional - refusing changes nothing else about the service.

Photographs of graded schoolwork are stored without any obligation being extracted from them, and are not transmitted to a language model. This material serves no current function in the service, and no assessment, score, ranking or prediction about your child is produced from it. Your permission is sought now because graded work is returned and discarded within the term, and because we intend to use it to generate practice questions drawn from the mistakes your child actually made. That analysis is not built. It is a separate purpose and will be described to you, and separately agreed, before any of this material is read. Whatever is printed on the paper is stored, including a teacher’s name or comment if one is written on it. You can erase any part of the image before it is sent. We keep this while your subscription is active, and for six months after it ends. If you only used the free trial and never subscribed, we keep it for 30 days after the trial ends. Then it is deleted. Refusing has no effect on the other permissions, and no such material is retained.

Taking your permission back

You may withdraw either permission at any time, from inside this app, at no cost. It is no harder than giving it was.

Withdrawing the optional permission stops us keeping lesson notes, and the ones already kept are erased. Nothing else about the service changes.
Withdrawing the required permission ends the service for that child. The documents you sent, and everything worked out from them, are erased.
Withdrawing does not undo what was lawfully done beforehand, and it does not affect your other child if you have more than one.

What your child is told

Your child is given their own explanation, written for their age. That is our duty, not yours, and telling them yourself does not replace it. Read it here.
